Bishop Hovakim Participates in Events Honouring the Visit of His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Catholicos of the Indian Malankara Orthodox Church

London, UK – 07 June 2024 – Bishop Hovakim Manukyan, the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church in the UK and Ireland, alongside other Oriental Orthodox Bishops, participated in a series of prayer services and events held in honour of the visit of His Holiness Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, the Catholicos of the Indian Malankara Orthodox Church. He was accompanied by Very Revd Fr Garegin Hambardzumian, the ecumenical officer of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

On June 5th, a solemn evensong was held at Westminster Abbey, followed by a reception at the Jerusalem Chamber. These events, organised by the Anglican and Eastern Churches Association, were attended by numerous clergy and faithful from different denominations and churches. They celebrated the deep-rooted traditions and unity within the Oriental Orthodox community and promoted ecumenical relations.

The following day, on June 6th, another evensong service took place at St. Andrew Wardrobe. This service was marked by a profound sense of unity and spiritual joy, bringing together leaders from various branches of the Oriental Orthodox Church. In his tweet, Bishop Hovakim expressed his delight, saying, “It was a spiritual joy to attend evening service with HH Catholicos of Indian Malankara Church with my spiritual brothers @BishopAngaelos at the Coptic Sanctuary.”

Both evensong services provided opportunities for reflection, prayer, and thanksgiving, reinforcing the Oriental Orthodox Church’s commitment to working together to promote spiritual growth and unity. The attendees were inspired by the messages of hope and solidarity conveyed during the services by the Catholicos of the Indian Malankara Church.

These events will be remembered as a testament to the enduring spirit of cooperation and brotherhood within the Oriental Orthodox Church.
